Lindsay Askins is a multi-faceted woman with a wide range of both personal and professional experience. Having been married-to-the-military for 20+ years, she’s held a random assortment of occupations, each giving her a skill set she otherwise would not have.

Before Motherhood and entrepreneurship, Lindsay taught middle and high school science using her degree in Animal Science and her ten years beforehand working as a veterinary technician to create curiosity in her classroom.

After leaving education, Lindsay started a photography business in 2010 focusing on military homecomings, family lifestyle sessions, and newborn photography.

After the birth of her first baby in 2012, Lindsay began serving pregnant and birthing women and their families as a doula and birth coach. For over 13 years now, she has guided women and their partners through pregnancy and birth and postpartum. Working as a doula organically morphed her photography into birth photography where, for more than a decade in several states across the U.S., she captured many babies arriving to Earth.

In 2023, Lindsay started a podcast called Birth Like a Mammal™ speaking on the pitfalls of obstetric birth in the U.S. and teaching new parents how to avoid birth trauma by giving birth in alignment with our mammalian design.

In that same year, Lindsay expanded her photography business into branding for highly-ambitious women entrepreneurs where she focuses on energetic work before shoots and fully pampering her clients with a true VIP branding session.

The Modern Matriarch was born from all of these roles and experiences with same focused mission: encouraging and supporting women to be the main character of their stories, births, and lives. Women are taught to shrink….shrink their goals, their dreams, their ambitions, their thoughts, their ideas….and it shows up in pregnancy, birth, postpartum, Motherhood, and business.

Women are creators. We create new life. And that creativity flows into every area of our lives - our homes, our food, our bodies, our relationships, our work, our art, our children, our businesses, our families, and so on. When we are playing small, living in shame and guilt and exhaustion, we cannot create from inspiration or heart. We are not authoring our lives in any capacity. We are not fully showing up for ourselves, our clients, or our families.

Women are designed to be a Matriarch, to lead themselves, their children, and the artistry of their lives. The Modern Matriarch is Lindsay’s creation for Mothers, and an extension of her own life, work, and heart. Mentoring and coaching Mothers is her life’s work whether she’s a doula, a birth coach, a postpartum mentor, or a photographer.
